Black walnut trees are rare in Central Texas. Planted by the homeowner, the tree that produced this wood was cut down in Hamilton, Texas, when the roots threatened the home’s foundation.
Did you ever count the growth rings of fallen logs as a child? This tabletop reminds me of my youth as I’m drawn to counting the thousands of mesmerizing growth rings — dark walnut swirls. Unlike other wood species in our collection that highlight color contrasts, black walnut heartwood has more color uniformity. The wood slices exhibit rich chocolate browns intermixed with orange and red hues. Whisps of beige sapwood add a small amount of contrast.
